Um Ji-sung to replace top scorer at European U19 Championships

Um Ji-sung (21-Gwangju FC) has been touted as a possible replacement for the ninth-ranked Scottish club in the UEFA League.

“Celtic (Scotland), ranked 53rd in the European club rankings, can forget the frustration of losing Jota (24-Portugal) by signing Umji Sung,” Robbie Walls (England) wrote on Aug. 6. The Scottish transfer window closes on September 1.

Walls has been with football media outlet 90min since 2022, covering English Premier League (EPL) club Manchester United, Celtic and English third tier side Wycombe Wanderers.

Jota is the 2021-22 Scottish First Division Best 11. In July 2023, he left Celtic for Al Ittihad (Saudi Arabia) for a transfer fee of €29.1 million.

The €29.1 million is the most money ever earned by a single player in Celtic’s 135-year history. Celtic’s €16.2 million ($23.3 billion) acquisition of Jota from Benfica (Portugal), then ranked 27th in Europe, in the summer of 2022 was also the club’s highest transfer fee.

“There are rumors that Thibaut is going to Celtic. I have some personal information,” Walls said. The Daily Record, a British newspaper, also reported that “Celtic could sign the player on a 2023 loan deal from K League One side Gwangju FC.”

The idea is that Celtic could convince Gwangju to “loan Uhm out for the remainder of the season in the Korean professional soccer league and then sell him in January 2024. “Either way, if Celtic can land the ambitious Uhm, they can erase the memory of Jota. The potential is unquestionable,” Walls said.

The Daily Record is Scotland’s leading newspaper. “It’s clear that Gwangju FC won’t let Uhm go to another team before the end of the 2023 K League 1,” it said.

Jota was an early favorite for the 2016 U-17 European Championship All-Star, 2018 U-19 European Championship Top Scorer, and 2018-19 Portuguese Second Division Young Player of the Year. He plays left wing and right wing.

Uhm won the K League 2 Young Player of the Year award for the 2022 season. According to the official data of the Korea Professional Football Association, he is ranked fifth in the 2023 K League 1 with more than 1000 minutes played with 2.41 free kicks per 90 minutes. Excluding foreigners, he ranks third.

“They have something in common in that they’re both defensive-minded left wings (in their main positions),” Walls said, pointing to their tackles+interceptions per game. Jota averaged 1.6 in the Scottish first division in 2022-23, while Ujisung averaged 1.7 in the 2022 K League 2.

In May of this year, Thomson was compared to England’s most expensive ever transfer, Jack Grealish (28-Manchester City), in a report by a video scout from the PSV Academy of the Dutch Eredivisie. The Netherlands is ranked fifth in the Eredivisie and PSV is ranked 41st in the European club rankings.바카라사이트

At the 2019 FIFA U-17 World Cup, he scored one goal and provided one assist to help South Korea reach the quarterfinals. He made his A-match debut in January 2022 against Iceland in a neutral site trial, scoring the game-winning goal in a 5-1 win.
