Turkey’s earthquake-affected football club Hatayspor decides to suspend participation in the league

Reporter Kim Do-yong = Turkey’s Hatayspor, which suffered great damage from the recent strong earthquakes in Turkey and Syria, decided not to participate in the remainder of this season’s league.

According to Reuters on the 10th (hereinafter referred to as Korean time), Ali Koch, president of the Turkiye Professional Football Club Association, said at a press conference, “Hataispor has decided to suspend participation in the 2022-23 season of the Turkish Super League (1st Division). “he said.

Hatayspor is a first division club based in Antakya, the capital of Hatay Province, where a 7.8-magnitude earthquake occurred in southeastern Turkey and northwestern Syria on the 6th. 온라인바카라

The Hatayspor club suffered loss of life in the earthquake. Christian Arts, a striker from the Ghanaian national team, who was recently rescued but went missing again, also belongs to the Hatayspor club. Director Taner Sabut is also missing.

It is known that Gaziantep FK, which is based in Gaziantep Province, another affected area, is also considering suspending participation in the league.

“If Gaziantep FK decides to suspend participation in the league, Hatayspor and Gaziantep FK will retain their rights (to remain in the 1st division) and proceed with the rest of the season,” Koch said.

A total of 19 teams compete in the Super League in the 2022-23 season, and the bottom 4 teams are relegated. If Hataispor and Gaziantep FK are omitted, it seems that the remaining season will be operated with 17 teams. Hatayspor are currently 14th and Gaziantep FK are 10th.

The Super League, which played 21 to 22 games per team, was suspended due to the strong earthquake and is scheduled to resume on March 3. However, as the earthquake damage is serious, there is a prospect that it may be delayed further.

The earthquake has killed 17,674 people in Turkey and 3,377 people in Syria, for a total of 21,051 people.
