On the 11th (Korean time), Director Ben appeared on the American radio program ‘Other City’ and mentioned Choi Ji-man. Director Ben said, “Choi Ji-man underwent elbow surgery. Choi Ji-man was speeding up his recovery, but we couldn’t help but have some concerns about his participation in the WBC.” He added, “Choi Ji-man was recovering well and he recently made live bets, but we wanted to proceed cautiously.”

Choi Ji-man was selected as one of the 30 WBC national team announced by the Korea Baseball Organization (KBO). However, his team, Pittsburgh, opposed him and eventually dropped the horse. The national team replaced Choi Ji-hoon with SSG outfielder Choi Ji-hoon. Choi Ji-man, who fell from the horse, said, “I am very disappointed and frustrated.”

General manager Ben said, “I think Choi Ji-man may still be disappointed with our decision. He is a proud Korean, and he has an emotional attachment to the Korean national team. I really understand Choi Ji-man’s disappointment.”

However, general manager Ben believed Choi Ji-man’s absence from the WBC could help him in the long run. Choi Ji-man will become a free agent (FA) after this season. General Manager Ben emphasized the importance of achieving good results in the regular season by focusing on recovery instead of participating in the WBC.
