‘Another Rain Cancellation’ Heavy rain soaked Jamsil Ground…LG-Lotte will rest today as well
LG and Lotte get another day off today. After two consecutive days of heavy rainfall, the two teams’ matchup has been postponed for another day.
The KBO has decided to rain out the game between the LG Twins and Lotte Giants of the 2023 Shinhan Bank SOL KBO League, which was scheduled to be held at Jamsil Stadium in Seoul, South Korea, starting at 6:30 p.m. today. The KBO made the decision to cancel the game at 4:15 pm.
A large amount of rain had soaked the Jamsil Stadium grounds since the morning. Earlier in the day, tarps were placed on the mound and home plate, but to no avail.
The two teams were scheduled to face each other the day before (22nd), but the game was also canceled due to rain. Two of the three games scheduled for this week have already been canceled due to rain. The games canceled on the previous day will be rescheduled at a later date.
This is the 14th game LG has had rained out this year. Lotte has also had 14 games rained out.
LG and Lotte had announced Lee Jung-yong and Aaron Wilkerson as their starting pitchers, respectively, but the matchup was canceled again.
The two teams are scheduled to face off again on the 24th, starting at 6:30pm. The starting pitching matchup will change. Both teams have decided to change their starting pitchers. LG will start foreign pitcher Casey Kelly instead of Lee Jung-yong. LG manager Yeom Kyung-yeop said, “Kelly will start tomorrow (April 24). Lee Jung-yong will not pitch in the middle innings, but will start again after resting a term,” he said.
Kelly has appeared in 23 games this season, throwing 135⅓ innings, with a 7-7 record and a 4.59 ERA. Against Lotte this year, he has appeared in three games and pitched 19⅓ innings, posting a 2-0 record with a 3.26 ERA. Kelly’s most recent start against Lotte came on June 23 at Jamsil Stadium, where he pitched eight innings of one-run (unearned), seven-hit ball while striking out seven and walking none.
Lotte will start Charlie Barnes in Wilkerson’s place. “Barnes will start tomorrow and Wilkerson will start on the 25th,” Lotte manager Larry Sutton said, meaning that Wilkerson will start against Sasik KT on the 25th. Barnes is 9-6 with a 3.53 ERA in 120 innings pitched in 22 games this season, but he is 2-2 with a 9.26 ERA in the LG League. His most recent outing was on June 24 against Jamsil LG, where he gave up four runs on five hits in 2 1/3 innings.
The two teams have met 11 times so far. LG holds a slight edge with a 6-5 record. LG took the best-of-three series against SSG last weekend, winning two and losing one. After 104 games, LG leads the league with 64 wins, 38 losses and two ties (.627 winning percentage). Second-place KT is close behind, but there is still a significant gap of 6.5 games.
Lotte, currently in seventh place, has 50 wins and 54 losses (.481 winning percentage) through 104 games. They are within two games of fifth-place Dusan for the final postseason spot. They are in desperate need of a turnaround after being swept in a three-game series against Kiwoom last weekend.안전놀이터
Meanwhile, LG added national team set-up man Jung Woo-young to the first team roster and recalled left-hander Lee Woo-chan. Jeong has appeared in 50 games this season, pitching 42⅔ innings with a 4-4 record and a 4.43 ERA with 11 strikeouts.
The previous day, Lotte designated right-hander Kim Chang-hoon for assignment and added left-hander Kim Jin-wook to the roster. Kim has appeared in 43 games this year, pitching 32⅔ innings with a 2-1 record and a 5.23 ERA in eight appearances.
